Presently he is a full time senior consultant in surgical gastroenterology and laparoscopic surgery at Apollo Hospitals (main), Chennai. His private consultation in the evening is by appointment at Chennai Breast Center, MRC Nagar, Chennai.
He graduated from the prestigious Jawaharlal Institute of Post-graduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER), Pondicherry in 1986. He subsequently done his initial surgical training from Stanley Medical College, Chennai and obtained MS (general surgery) degree in 1989. Soon after he joined MCh(surgical gastroenterology) course at Madras Medical College and obtained his super-specialty degree in 1992 under the chairmanship of Prof.N.Rangabashyam.
For the next three and half years he worked as a senior resident in the Department of Gastro-intestinal Surgery and Liver Transplantation at the prestigious All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi under Prof.Samiran Nundy.
After completion of extensive training in AIIMS in the field of advanced gastro-intestinal surgery and hepato-pancreatico-biliary surgery he joined as a consultant GI Surgeon at Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical sciences (SVIMS), Tirupati. He literally kick-started the department there and in a two year period he performed over 540 major abdominal surgeries with good results. He initiated laparoscopic surgery in that institution in 1997 and since then the department has grown in leaps and bounds.
He subsequently joined Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS), Hyderabad as a consultant GI surgeon and worked there for about two years before going abroad.
He had a 3-year stint as a senior consultant in GI Surgery at Z.H.Sikder Women's Medical College Hospital, Dhaka, Bangladesh where he went on invitation from the govt. of Bangladesh. The department he started there is doing very well now.
In 2003 He joined Apollo Hospitals, Colombo, Sri Lanka as a senior consultant and head in GI surgery and Gastroenterology where he worked for 3 years before moving to Apollo Hospitals, Chennai.
